Here is an update on HP after a long time.<br />
<br />
A lot has changed since my last post:<br />
<a href="http://bloginfomanage.blogspot.com/2010/05/hp-and-buying-spree-and-some-more.html">http://bloginfomanage.blogspot.com/2010/05/hp-and-buying-spree-and-some-more.html </a><br />
<br />
HP is broken up into multiple companies now:<br />
<br />
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>HPE</li>
<li>HP (Hewlett Packard) - that just sells printers, pcs and mobile phones (Yes, HP still makes mobile phones and they run Windows).</li>
</ul>
<br />
HPE has sold its software business to MicroFocus.<br />
HPE has sold its software consulting business which merged with CSC to create a new company called as DXC.Technology.<br />
<br />
I had recommended HP to buy Sybase, but that got acquired by SAP.<br />
I had also recommended HP to by Jboss/Redhat - which has kept acquiring other solutions to become a bigger software group.<br />
<br /></div>

I can see more and more mobile payment solutions. Square has created a new mobile payment solution (where you would use your phone to buy something) - this is apart from their credit card scan solution.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There are other solutions that do something similar. Also Groupon, Google Payment, and others can be used to create such innovative payment solutions.<br />
<br />
Also that way I do not have to worry about losing my credit card information.</div>

There have been two diffenent CEO. There has been a change in their palm strategy. Also there is a complete change in their pc and printer business.</p>

After buying EDS, it has taken in 3com (who owned Palm for a while), and Palm. There has been rumors that may do a counter bid for Sybase. But there are other companies that it should consider.<br />
<br />
<ul><li>Redhat / Jboss - it will give HP an App server that is popular in opensource world.</li>
<ul><li>There are other alternatives that it should consider - such as Pramati</li>
</ul><li>Citrix - Citrix with its acquisition XEN may provide right punch to counter EMC/VMware (there are other intellectual properties such as spring that still need some thinking - such as JBoss)</li>
<li>Novell - With its Linux, Netware legacy, Mono and other assets and a partnership with Microsoft in terms of patent sharing.. it may provide right set of tools to compete in the OS world... </li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div>It may appear that one company may not provide everything it needs and it may need to acquire more than one... </div>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-48407621595924484252009-12-22T17:25:00.000-05:002009-12-22T17:25:12.151-05:00RB: Unofficial tech support returns home for the holidays<div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>A nice article from Jeffery Chang, Associate Product Manager for Google Chrome.</div><div><br /></div><div>Google promotes Google Chrome, but also promotes other browsers (in terms of asking users to upgrade to latest versions of them).</div><div><br /></div><a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/unofficial-tech-support-returns-home.html">Official Google Blog: Unofficial tech support returns home for the holidays</a><div><a href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/unofficial-tech-support-returns-home.html"></a><br /><div>I am trying to invent a new term "RB" - for ReBlog.</div></div>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-47843992990897324262009-11-15T22:12:00.001-05:002009-11-15T22:12:49.647-05:00Google owns Gizmo5, but what about SipPhone?<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p>Google has purchased Gizmo5, but there is not clarity as to what happens to SipPhone.com, SipHardware.com etc, are all these also owned by Google?<br/><br/>How is google going to use them?</p>in reference to: <a href='http://www.google.com/gizmo5/'><a href='http://www.google.com/gizmo5/'>http://www.google.com/gizmo5/</a></a> (<a href='http://www.google.com/sidewiki/entry/chirag.sanghavi/id/djxtFWqvi1ochXxmd-0n_g5Lc5c'>view on Google Sidewiki</a>)</div>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-27886252495971268872009-11-13T20:07:00.001-05:002009-11-13T20:07:29.522-05:00Adobe is not here, nor there<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><p>In the current spat of eBook readers, there is a platform that people completely missed. The company has already announced that it is quitting the hardware market. Now they want to sustain themselves as a platform provider. Only companies that want to make GPS and are not on a viable platform will find Dash attractive. Even the companies with established platforms such as Garmin, and Tomtom will find it tough to survive in Post <b>Google Navigate</b> market.<div><br /></div><div>Dash may want to sell out itself to Nokia, or Google and/or port its platform to Maemo or Android. Since both of these are running on Linux, it should not be a totally difficult task. There are other options such as Openmoko and Palm, but in terms of funding Nokia and Google may be able to get the platform needed lift and merge it with their existing offering.</div><div><br /></div><div>Dash can become a "Google Dashboard" on a car, just like Android trying to become the preferred Phone OS.</div>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-46379272911852935242009-11-10T16:01:00.001-05:002009-11-10T16:03:00.843-05:00Got Fon 2.0n RouterJust got my Fon 2.0n router in mail. Even than, there is still market for tools such as Chandler, Mozilla Calendar etc, as anyone who wants to use something lighter than Microsoft Outlook will continue to look at other tools.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-47540708770219388712008-11-03T15:32:00.001-05:002008-11-03T15:33:37.711-05:00Microsoft advertising on Google Adsense<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwIKq8tIoRfHYSCIiFd51LIgeib8ZR3B86veyWiPf0bkMNrsk0lau8YZ4iNukeiFywn46OaojGOILtSytFXQlk5WZrDdklft8TtllgNMst4JsG_rrKV5u0DT19ekSLAwqYq-0P/s1600-h/microsoft+search+perk+adsense.png"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 37px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwIKq8tIoRfHYSCIiFd51LIgeib8ZR3B86veyWiPf0bkMNrsk0lau8YZ4iNukeiFywn46OaojGOILtSytFXQlk5WZrDdklft8TtllgNMst4JsG_rrKV5u0DT19ekSLAwqYq-0P/s400/microsoft+search+perk+adsense.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5264531894440028930" /></a>Microsoft's advertisements about Seachperks are appearing on Google Adsense and various google applications.Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-5720423637006363922008-10-21T18:12:00.000-04:002008-10-21T18:12:57.240-04:00Official Gmail Blog: More changes to Gmail contact manager<a href="http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-changes-to-gmail-contact-manager.html">Official Gmail Blog: More changes to Gmail contact manager</a><br /><br />Since both regular contacts and suggested contacts are going to show up in suggestions, It will be great if they show up in different colors.Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-35145157418079424502008-10-16T11:59:00.000-04:002008-10-16T16:30:09.798-04:00When will Microsoft learn not to play with users?Okay, <div><br /></div><div>Now that anger is out on the title of the post, let's get the facts straight.</div><div><br /></div><div>I got an email from Microsoft today and to get 100 bonus points, decided to try their toolbar. See previous post <a href="http://www.blogger.com/2008/10/download-club-toolbar-and-get-100-bonus.html">here</a>. Installation of the toolbar was fine, i skirted the obvious options to change my default page and default search engine and did the plain toolbar install. Worked just fine. All it needed was to exit my IE and run it again after installation and did first search. Now comes the cons:<a href="http://bloginfomanage.blogspot.com/2008/10/download-club-toolbar-and-get-100-bonus.html"></a></div><div><ul><li>When you use toolbar, it automatically does like "<span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">auto sense</span>" or behaves like Google Suggest. There is no way to disable it.</li><li>The feature is very slow, which means you have to wait long between <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">keystrokes</span>.</li></ul><div>Anyways, Since I got my 100 bonus points after doing first search, I decided to <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">uninstall</span> the toolbar. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Uninstall</span> process was almost smooth. It required me to shutdown my IE obviously. Now comes <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">disaster: <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: normal; ">It started changing few registry settings. Lavasoft ad-watch running on my pc caught these. This is what it tried to do:</span></span></div><div><ul><li>Change default search to MSN by changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search\SearchAssistant to http://search.live.com/sphome.aspx</li><li>Change default page of the browser by changing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Start Page to http://www.msn.com</li><li>Change search engine for the user by setting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\Search Page to http://search.live.com</li></ul><div>It is entirely outrageous to change these settings without informing user beforehand.</div></div><div><br /></div></div><div><br /></div><div>Once </div><div><br /></div>Chiraghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00574693216848349491noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13488306.post-49230701655695421612008-10-16T11:31:00.001-04:002008-10-16T11:31:10.427-04:00Download the Club toolbar and get 100 bonus tickets<p>I got an email from Microsoft with following text and subject as it is in the title.</p> <blockquote> <p>Take the Club with you everywhere on the Web. <br />The new Live Search Club toolbar makes it even easier to search the web, check your Club account, access your favorite games and prizes, and earn tickets, just by searching.
